Biography:

Alex Garcia is a Nuevo Latino chef who helped popularize a version of Cuban food at several New York City restaurants and on the Food Network.

The Cuban native is a graduate of both the Culinary Institute of America and Northeastern University in Massachusetts, where he earned a degree in hotel and restaurant management. Garcia created the Nuevo Latino movement while working alongside famed chef Douglas Rodriguez at Yuca restaurant in Miami.

He went on to helm top New York City restaurants including Patria Erizo Latino in Soho, Babalu and Calle Ocho and, most recently, Garcia serves as Director of Culinary Operations of Barrio Foods, a full service food management company for restaurants such as Habana Room and Barrio. Garcia is also an established author and TV personality.

His first cookbook, "In a Cuban Kitchen" was published in September 2004 in the United States and Europe. Garcia is also one of the stars of The Melting Pot, which premiered on The Food Network in 2000. The show follows Garcia and fellow chefs as they expose viewers to delectable dishes from around the world. The Melting Pot currently airs weekends at 11am ET on The Cooking Channel. His culinary talents are also followed by Spanish audiences in Nuestra Cocina, a popular cooking show on Spanish television in United State and South America.
