FABIAN HUERFANO
Fabian Huerfano has spent more than 14 years in the hospitality industry, most recently as the General Manager and Sommelier at Yerba Buena Perry in Manhattan's West Village, which recently won Wine Spectator's 2010 Award of Excellence. At Yerba Buena Perry, Huerfano has carefully selected more than 200 bottles for the wine list, including 20 wines by the glass. The list focuses solely on wines from Spain, South America, and the United States, complementing the restaurant's Pan-Latin cuisine.
Huerfano's career began at Ryland Inn in Whitehouse, New Jersey, where he was the Head Bartender and Captain at the restaurant that was awarded 4 stars by the New York Times and Newark's Star-Ledger. His experience supervising bartenders and wait staff led him to Patria restaurant in Manhattan, where he served as Sommelier and Assistant Maitre d', and was later promoted to Beverage Director. Huerfano also served as the Beverage Director and Maitre d' at top Latin restaurants Lucy and Pipa before becoming General Manager at Kafe Lounge in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Prior to coming to Yerba Buena Perry, he was a Captain at Due Mari Pesce y Vinoteca in New Brunswick, New Jersey, a restaurant that was awarded 3 stars by the New York Times.
Huerfano enjoys seeking out new and intriguing Latin wines, and introducing them to guests at Yerba Buena Perry. Future travels will take him to Chile and Argentina, to learn even more about those countries' wine-growing regions.
